On 19 February, Ambassador Dr Martin Hanz took part in a German-Colombian dialogue in Berlin on labour rights in Colombia, within the framework of which he outlined the current state of the accession process as well as the remaining unresolved issues with regard to the OECD Employment, Labour and Social Affairs Committee.

The workshop was held at the invitation of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and brought together both German and Colombian government and trade union representatives, who exchanged views with each other as well as with OECD officials and representatives of civil society. The discussions highlighted the progress Colombia has made towards meeting the requirements of the accession process as well the problems which have yet to be resolved. The workshop was praised for providing valuable support.

Colombia has been in the accession process since 2013 and hopes that it will fulfil all criteria during the term of office of President Santos and that it can accede to the OECD in 2018.
