The Permanent Representative to the OECD heads a number of specialized divisions that together cover the whole range of OECD policy.

Message from the Ambassador

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the website of the Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development!

Originally established as an advisory follow-up organisation to the Marshall Plan, the Organisation for Economic Co‑operation and Development (OECD) today sets standards for international economic relations in many specialist fields. It also prepares groundbreaking analyses and international data comparisons on topics ranging from environmental protection, climate change and education – the obvious example here being the oft‑quoted PISA study – to financial and social policy, energy and development activities. Its aim is to sustainably secure and improve the economic framework and living conditions in the OECD Member countries and beyond. It thus makes an important contribution towards shaping globalisation and supports the G20 in many different ways.

The OECD is an international governmental organisation with 35 Member countries; the European Commission also participates. Although they are not Member countries, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia and South Africa play a major role as Key Partners participating in the work of substantive bodies of the organisation.

The job of Germany’s Permanent Representation to the OECD is to stand up for Germany’s interests in the organisation – in the Council, in committee meetings or in working groups on the spot. Not only the Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, which has lead responsibility for the OECD, second staff to the Permanent Representation, but also the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Bundesbank.

Our website provides comprehensive documentation about the work of the Permanent Representation and the OECD as well as contact details for officials responsible for specific fields.
